The co-founder and former head author for Rockstar Video games Dan Houser has stated that there was curiosity in making movies based mostly on Grand Theft Auto and Crimson Lifeless Redemption.
Speaking to The Ankler – via GamesIndustry.biz – the business veteran stated that he’d had numerous conversations with movie execs about turning the corporate’s crown jewel IPs into films. Houser says he did not perceive the purpose of such a enterprise.
“After a number of awkward dates, we’d ask [the executives], why would we do that?” he stated; the execs in query would say it was a possibility to companion on this type of a venture.
“No, what you have described is you making a film and us having no management and taking an enormous threat that we’re going to finish up paying for with one thing that belongs to us,” Houser continued.
“They thought we’d be blinded by the lights and that simply wasn’t the case. We had what we thought-about to be multi-billion-dollar IP, and the economics by no means made sense. The chance by no means made sense. In these days, the notion was that video games made poor-quality films.”
